Selfie verification

What the selfie check is, what we look for, and how to pass it on the first try.

Last updated 2026-05-29

The selfie check is a brief video where you follow a pose prompt on screen — for example, turn your head left, then right. A reviewer confirms the selfie matches your profile photos.

How to pass on the first try

  • Use good lighting — natural daylight is ideal.
  • No sunglasses, hats that hide your face, or heavy filters.
  • Match the prompt exactly. If it asks for a left turn, turn left first.
  • Make sure your face is fully in frame the whole time.

Where the selfie lives

  • Stored in a private vault separate from your profile.
  • Never appears on your profile, in the discover feed, or in chats.
  • Reviewer access is logged with timestamp and identity.
  • You can request deletion from Settings → Verification once verified.

If you're declined

You'll get a specific reason and a one-tap retake option. Most declines are about lighting or framing, not identity, and clear up on the second try.
